In 1943 the famous science fiction writer H. G. Wells published a book called 'Crux Ansata'. In it he advocated the destruction of the Church of Rome by bombing and launched a fiercesome and vitriolic attack charged the Roman Catholic church with 'Mithraic blood-letting'!
